Protection solutions for 10Gb/s Ethernet port

The Ethernet port, the RJ45 crystal head connector that we usually see. Commonly, according to the classification of network speed, there are 10/100Mb/s, 1000Mb/s, 2.5Gb/s, 5Gb/s, 10Gb/s and so on.

Electrical parameters of the 10Gb/s Ethernet port

The 10Gb/s Ethernet port usually uses XGMII signal, and the electrical parameters of the 10Gb/s Ethernet port are as follows according to the relevant standards of IEEE802.3:

It can be seen from the above table that the operating level of 10Gb/s Ethernet port is 1.6V, so it is recommended to choose 3.3V TVS protection components during protection;

Requirements for protection of 10Gb/s Ethernet port

According to the test requirements of ITU-T K.20/K.21, the common test levels for 10Gb/s Ethernet port are as follows:

As can be seen from the above table, the highest level of protection for indoor 10Gb/s Ethernet port is differential common mode 6KV, and the test wiring diagram is as follows:

Ethernet Port Differential Mode Test Method

Twisted pair terminal pairs are 1a + 1b, 2a + 2b through to 4a + 4b served by switches SW1, SW2 through to SW4, respectively. As shown in K.44 A 6.7-5, during Ethernet port differential mode test, when one wire is tested, all the other seven wires to ground.

▼Ethernet Port Common Mode Test Method

ITU-T K.XX (20/21/44) Ethernet port test wiring diagram

As shown in 44 A 6.7-3a, during Ethernet port common mode test, 8 wires to ground.

NOTE – This circuit shorts out an injector device or power sourcing equipment power supply. IEEE 802.3 compliant power supplies will not be damaged by this condition.

Protection solution

Transformer front stage adopts BZ091Nto solve the high current and high voltage of primary 6KV, and common-mode to ground s BF801Mto solve the insulation durability requirement of DC500V to ground after testing; transformer secondary adopts BV-FA03UCEwith low junction capacitance and 8A@8/20μs IPP, which is suitable to be used for the EOS protection of high-speed signals of 5Gb/s and 10Gb/s. The component parameters are as follows:

Summary

10Gb/s Ethernet port transmission rate is high, the secondary protection components of the secondary residual voltage, junction capacitance, leakage current and other details of the parameters are required, the development of this component process, we pay great attention to high temperature transmission, under the high temperature 85 ℃ transmission, to achieve 0 packet loss.
